That $6 pipe strap trick saved my wobbly bench corner

Last month I got tired of my workbench rocking every time I used a hand plane near the left leg. I tried shimming it with scrap plywood but that just moved the wobble to the other corner. Then I remembered how plumbers brace pipes, so I grabbed a 2 foot piece of metal pipe strap and screwed it diagonally across the back corner. It pulled everything tight in about ten minutes and cost me maybe six bucks at the hardware store in Tulsa. Anyone else use pipe strap for bench bracing or is there a better trick I should know?

Is it just me, or does the best fix always end up being the one that was never designed for the job? I've noticed that pattern everywhere, not just in the shop. Like how people use binder clips to hold cables or zip ties to fix car bumpers. The stuff made for one thing always seems to solve a totally different problem better than the actual tool. Pipe strap is a classic. It's cheap, strong, and people forget it can do way more than hold pipes. I bet you'll start seeing uses for it all over your house now. I've got a roll in my drawer and it's saved me more times than I can count.
