That $70 workbench top I thought was a steal... total regret now
Picked up a sheet of that cheap 3/4 inch particle board with the melamine coating from the big box store. Looked perfect for a flat workbench top. After 4 months it sagged between the supports by like half an inch. Couple of spills and the melamine started peeling. Just ripped it off yesterday and ate the cost. Anyone else get burned by using particle board for a workbench top?

Bought the same stuff for a shelf and it warped so bad my jars rolled right off.

Did you check the weight rating before you put all those jars on it? I've got a similar shelf from the same store with cans of tomatoes on it for six months now and it's still perfectly straight. Maybe you got a bad batch or didn't fasten the brackets tight enough?
