My dad swore watching reruns of The Outer Limits as a kid would teach me something, and he was right

My buddy tracked down Columbo and now he won't shut up about it.

Old timer warned me about using steel wool on chimneys...

Oh wow, I actually have to jump in here because that's a really good warning but I think the main problem with steel wool isn't just the rust! It's more that the tiny metal fibers can actually get stuck in the creosote and then when you burn a hot fire they can heat up and cause little sparks or even damage the liner from the inside out. I've seen it happen to a buddy of mine who cleaned his own chimney with steel wool and had tiny orange rust spots showing up within a few months just like you described. So yeah your old timer was right to warn you, but it's not just the rust deposits themselves that are the biggest worry. Honestly I stick to stiff nylon brushes or those special plastic scraper heads now and they work way better without any of this trouble.

Visited the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka and noticed something about the crowds

Well, the crowds are actually the point if you think about how the place was designed as a museum for immersive, quiet wandering rather than a theme park. Miyazaki specifically wanted it small and low-tech to force people to slow down and notice details, which kind of backfires when everyone shows up at once. Maybe the real crowd issue is just that we're all trying to have a personal moment in a place built for solitary reflection, and that tension is baked into the experience.

Dubbed vs subbed - did anyone else switch sides after a specific scene?

Did you at least give them a proper funeral before switching sides? My ears still haven’t recovered from that trainwreck.
