Noticed a big shift in cutterhead wear after switching to a different sand

We've been running the same section of the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge for about 3 months now. Around week 6, I started seeing way more wear on the cutterhead teeth than usual, like replacing them every 40 hours instead of every 70. I swapped to a coarser sand blend from a different pit last month and the wear rate dropped back to normal. Has anyone else seen this kind of change just from switching aggregate sources?

Oh man, that's actually a finer sand that wears less, not coarser.

All that technical grit talk reminds me of when I tried to build a sandcastle with playground sand once and it just crumbled into dust.
