That one shift where the whole pump system just gave up
We were working a channel near Galveston, moving about 800 cubic yards an hour, when the main pump started making a sound like rocks in a blender. Shut it down, pulled the impeller, and found a chunk of rebar the size of my forearm wedged in there. The whole crew spent the next nine hours pulling the pump apart in the rain while the barge just sat. Boss was furious about the downtime. Anyone ever have a pump eat something that big, and how do you even check for that?
