Saw a slick setup on a small suction dredge near Lake Tahoe

They had a custom screen box on the sluice that caught way more fines than my usual rig. It was just some expanded metal and angle iron, but the guy said it added about 15% to his gold take. Anyone built something similar for fine gold recovery?

That custom screen box setup sounds clever. It reminds me of this old timer I met up near the Feather River who swore by layering different mesh screens in his sluice, starting coarse and getting real fine at the end. He called it his "gold lasagna." Said it trapped flour gold that usually just washed right through. What kind of expanded metal did the guy use, do you know?

Wish I knew, that gold lasagna idea is genius though.

Oh man, I always thought that stuff was just extra weight! Hearing it adds 15% makes me want to try building one.
