Hot take: self-checkout works if you scan produce first
I used to hate self-checkout because it always screamed at me for unexpected item in bag. Tried scanning all my produce first at the Kroger on Main Street and now I breeze through in under 5 minutes. Has anyone else found a weird order that just clicks?

oh yeah, once i figured out the order thing it was a total game changer. i do bananas first because they're big and i can get them on the scale fast, then apples or whatever other produce, and save the bagged stuff like grapes for last so the bag doesn't slide around or get squished. idk, maybe it's just a mental thing but it feels way less stressful when i'm not trying to juggle a bunch of loose stuff at the end.

My friend Steve told me he used to dread grocery shopping until he figured out the produce scale routine. He'd have bananas rolling off the scale and grapes getting crushed under his elbow, it was a mess. Now he does his produce the same way Barbara described, starting with the big stuff and working down to the bagged items. He claims it shaved a good five minutes off his shopping trips because he's not fumbling around anymore.
