I think pigtail connections are way better than using the receptacle itself for continuity

I know most guys swear by using the device to pass power through to the next outlet, but I started doing pigtails on every outlet about two years ago after a service call in a old house in Austin. The problem was a loose connection at the receptacle caused the whole downstream circuit to die, and it took me an hour to find it. Since switching to pigtails, I have never had a call back for a dead outlet on the same circuit. Has anyone else had better luck with pigtails in older homes?
