Got into it with a buddy about fixing old game consoles, specifically the thermal paste job
He swears by the cheap white paste from the auto parts store, says it works fine. I just redid a stack of original Xboxes and used a name brand paste, Arctic MX-4. The difference after a year is huge. His units are already running about 10 degrees hotter on average, and one started making the fan noise again. Mine are still quiet and cool. Is saving three dollars on a tube really worth the extra heat and likely shorter life for the board? What paste do you guys trust for long term repairs?

shorter life for the board" is the whole point.

Remember my buddy who bought that "premium" board? Thing snapped in half on a small curb after like three months. He paid extra for the fancy materials, but it was way too stiff and just gave out. Total waste of cash chasing the wrong specs.
