The old controller room at 30 Rock taught me a lesson about modernization

I was up at Rockefeller Center last Tuesday working on a service elevator and got a look at the old M-G set room they still have in the basement. The original controllers from 1931 are still sitting there gathering dust, but the new gear they put in two years ago is all solid state and fits in one small cabinet. Made me think about how much simpler troubleshooting is now compared to back then when you had to listen for every relay click and check each brush. Anyone else work on a historic building where they kept the old equipment just for show?

Nostalgia's nice but I'll take solid state ANY day over listening for clicks.
