A client's simple comment made me rethink my whole consultation script

I was doing a skin check for a new client, Sarah, and going through my usual list of questions about her routine and goals. I asked her what she wanted to focus on, and she said, "Honestly, I just want my face to feel calm. You keep asking what I want to fix, but I'm tired of thinking about my skin as a problem." That hit me hard. For years, my intake form was built around identifying 'issues' like fine lines or congestion. After she left, I sat down and rewrote everything. Now my first question is, "How do you want your skin to feel?" and I frame the whole talk around comfort and health, not just fixing flaws. It's changed how clients open up to me from the very first visit. Has anyone else shifted their approach from problem-focused to something more positive?

Huh, I actually find a problem-focused list really helpful! It gives me a clear starting point to work from.

Reminds me of my old dentist. He always pointed out every tiny flaw. Switched to one who just asks if anything hurts or feels off. Makes the whole visit less stressful.
