My grandma's pie crust recipe failed me for the first time ever

I was making her famous apple pie for a friend's birthday in Seattle, and the dough just turned to mush. I think the butter was too soft because my kitchen was warm. Has anyone else had a family recipe just not work in a different place?

Ever try using vodka instead of water for a more forgiving crust?

Honestly, chill the flour? How cold does your kitchen get first?

My grandma's pie crust in Phoenix was perfect, but it failed twice when I moved to Portland. I finally learned to chill everything, even the flour, for an hour before starting. Humidity and temperature can wreck a trusted recipe.
