My neighbor mentioned her grandma's secret to perfect pie crust and it blew my mind
I was chatting with my neighbor yesterday and she said her grandma always used vodka instead of water in her pie dough! She explained that the alcohol cooks off and leaves the crust super flaky without making it tough. I tried it last night with my apple pie recipe, using a half cup of cold vodka, and the texture was honestly the best I've ever made. It didn't get soggy at all after sitting for a few hours. Has anyone else tried this trick or have a different family secret for pastry?

That vodka trick is low key genius and it makes total sense. It's wild how many old school kitchen hacks are actually backed by solid science. You see the same thing with using mayo to grill cheese or adding a bit of coffee to chocolate cake. The best cooking tips always feel like a secret cheat code.

Totally agree, @verafoster! What's your favorite "cheat code" hack that actually blew your mind when you learned the science behind it?
