inA retired farrier in Boise told me to always quench my punches in used motor oil, not water.
Oh man, that's a classic tip but it's a bit backwards. The oil cools it slower than water, that's the whole point. Water quenching is way too fast and hard on the steel, makes it brittle. So the old farrier had it right. I see what @pathenderson is saying about bacon grease too, that's just another type of slow oil quench. The key is avoiding that water shock.

inWas talking to my friend's kid about their school uniform and it totally flipped my view on 'boring' clothes.
Read an article about how uniforms can actually reduce bullying based on clothes. It said when everyone looks the same, kids get picked on less for not having expensive brands. That changed my mind a bit. I used to think they just killed creativity. Now I see it might help some kids feel more equal at school. Takes the pressure off families who can't afford fancy outfits every day.

inI was talking to my neighbor who works at a food bank yesterday and she said they're seeing a 40% jump in people needing help just since January.
Honestly, that post got me too. Tbh it's scary how fast things are changing. My own pantry list is basically rice, dried beans, and a giant bag of potatoes because they last forever in a cool spot. I've started buying an extra bag of flour every trip too, just in case. It feels less like being thrifty now and more like quietly getting ready.
