My neighbor said my grandma's pie crust recipe was 'too simple to be good'
I was baking last Friday and she saw my ingredients, just flour, salt, lard, and ice water. She told me, 'You need vinegar or vodka for a tender crust, everyone knows that.' I've made it this way for 15 years and it's always been perfect. What's one ingredient in a family recipe you'd never change?

Some people just love to overcomplicate things.

Some people just love to overcomplicate things" can be a bit unfair. What looks like overcomplication is often someone trying to be precise. Like giving clear instructions instead of a vague "fix it," or listing ingredients for a recipe. That extra detail stops problems later. It's not about making it hard, it's about making it right.

Actually, that extra detail Abby mentioned is usually the difference between something working and not working. Calling it overcomplication misses the point of why people add those steps. It's not about being difficult, it's about being clear so nobody has to guess. A little more time explaining upfront saves a lot more time fixing it later.
