Why does nobody talk about stretch fabric being a trap for beginners

Spent 3 years avoiding knits because my first project ended up a wavy mess. Finally took a class last month in Austin and the instructor pointed out I was using a regular needle instead of a ballpoint one. Has anyone else had a basic tool choice ruin your fabric?

Funny you mention that, I had almost the same experience with a rayon challis once. Thought I was doing everything right until the whole thing started puckering and I realized my machine was set to the wrong tension for the whole first half of the project.

A 3.0 tension on my brother machine fixed the exact same rayon issue for me.
