Is there a right way to hold a hammer? I've been doing it wrong for 20 years.

I was building a deck last weekend and my buddy stopped me mid-swing, said I was gripping it like a caveman and that's why my wrist hurt after 10 minutes. He showed me the loose grip method where you let the hammer do the work, and now I'm wondering how many other basic skills I've been butchering my whole life - anyone else have that moment where you realized you were making something way harder than it needed to be?

The real trick nobody talks about is how your whole body needs to be relaxed, not just your hand. I noticed my shoulders were all tight and that was making the hammer feel heavier than it actually was. Once I let my arm go loose from the shoulder down, it was like swinging a toy.

Watched a YouTube video on how to properly use a chef's knife after years of chopping with a dull blade and a death grip. Turns out the claw grip and letting the knife rock forward cuts tomatoes like butter and saves your knuckles. It's wild how many things we just brute force our way through until someone shows us the easy path.
