Just found a whole box of old video game stuff for $20 at the swap meet

I was digging through a bin at the local swap meet on Sunday, you know the kind with just a pile of random cords and junk. I almost passed it by, but then I saw a Sega Genesis poking out. I asked the guy how much for the whole box, and he just said twenty bucks. Got it home and sorted it out, found the console, two controllers, and like fifteen games, including a copy of Sonic 2. The console is a bit dirty but it works fine after I cleaned it up. I always heard people talk about finding gold in those junk piles, but I never really believed it until now. It's got me wondering, what's the best way to test old game consoles you find before you buy them, especially when they don't have a power cord handy?

Check for rust inside first.

Nah, I gotta disagree with @miab87, surface rust isn't always a dealbreaker.

Yeah, I read that surface rust can be just cosmetic sometimes.
