Just realized preheating molds prevents casting flaws

My scrap rate dropped by half when I began preheating them.

I used to believe preheating was just an extra step for perfectionists. Seeing your results made me try it on some stubborn aluminum parts. The difference was instant, especially with those thin walls that always got cold shuts. It completely fixed the mist runs I could never get rid of before. Now it's a non-negotiable part of my setup for every pour. That simple heat change is probably the best habit I've picked up.

My old neighbor insisted on warming his coffee mug with hot water before pouring. I thought it was silly until I tried it and the coffee stayed hot twice as long. It's like that with preheating molds. You don't see the value until you experience the direct result, then you can't go back. It turns a small, easy step into a huge quality fix.

Last month at my garage setup, I poured aluminum without preheating and got decent results. @jesse_craig26, your experience sounds solid, but is preheating really that critical for all cases? I've seen guys swear by it, but also others who skip it and still make good parts. For me, it depends on the design. Thin sections might need it, but thicker stuff? Not so much. Kinda feels like one of those things that gets blown out of proportion in online forums.
