Got ghosted by a client after finishing a $2k project in Seattle
They just stopped replying to emails after I sent the final files, so now I require half up front. Anyone else have a go-to contract clause for this?

Man, that's brutal, I'm sorry. My buddy had the same thing happen with a web design job last year, and it was a mess. He ended up having to send like five invoice reminders before they finally paid, and it totally changed how he does business. I mean, half up front is a solid move for sure.

Watched my friend's catering business almost go under because a wedding party refused to pay the final three grand. They kept making excuses for months, saying the appetizers weren't hot enough or some nonsense. He finally had to get a lawyer involved just to get his own money back. Now he takes a non-refundable deposit that covers his costs before he even buys the groceries.

The "appetizers weren't hot enough" excuse is a classic. Sounds like they were just fishing for a discount after eating all the food. Good on your friend for changing his policy, because chasing down three grand in unpaid bills can sink a small operation fast. It's wild how some people think a wedding is a free pass to stiff the people working it.
