My buddy's freelance rule is get 50% upfront, always. That ghosting stuff is way too common.

My last three clients paid 100% after the work was done.

Totally agree with your buddy. That 50% upfront rule is a lifesaver... it just filters out the bad clients from the start. Saves you so much headache.
