Tbh, I always bought the cheap store brand canned beans

But last week I grabbed a bag of dried pinto beans for $1.79 and cooked a huge pot. The flavor was way better and it made like four times as much food for the same price. Anyone have other cheap dried bean recipes?

Totally get that, I was a canned bean person for years too. The switch to dried is a game changer for both flavor and the grocery bill. Have you tried making a big batch of lentil soup with the dried green or brown kind? They cook fast without soaking and make a really filling meal.

Ever try black beans from scratch? They're my go-to for chili. Just soak them overnight and simmer with some onion and cumin.

Yeah, that's EXACTLY how I started with black beans too. Soaking overnight really does make a huge difference in texture. I remember my first batch of chili from scratch - I threw in some smoked paprika and a little chipotle pepper along with the cumin, and it came out SO much better than anything from a can. The beans just hold their shape better and don't get mushy. Plus you can control the salt way more. Now I do big batches on Sunday and freeze portions for the week.
