Can we talk about that one guy at the salvage yard who saved my refinish job?
Pulled up to the Habitat ReStore last month looking for some old drawer fronts for a dresser I was stripping. This older fellow sorting through the lumber pile pointed at my can of stripper and said "you know that stuff eats through shellac in 3 minutes flat, right?" I had been scrubbing for 20 minutes on a test piece with the wrong stuff. He showed me his go-to method of a 50/50 mix of denatured alcohol and lacquer thinner for old shellac, and it cut my time down by half. Dude had been doing finishes for 40 years and just hangs out there giving out tips for free. anyone else run into random mentors in odd spots like that?
