Hit $500 in gift card sales at my Etsy shop last month, totally unexpected
I started making custom gift card holders as a side thing just to use up some scrap paper I had lying around. Last month I checked my Etsy stats and saw I had sold over $500 worth of them. That caught me off guard because I never even promoted them. Most of the sales came from people searching for unique ways to give cash or gift cards for weddings and graduations. I think the key was adding a pocket for a personal note. What kind of gift packaging ideas have worked best for you all?

Oh that's such a nice surprise though, isn't it? I mean, when something just takes off without you even trying, it feels extra good. The pocket for a personal note idea makes a lot of sense too, people really value that little extra touch when giving money. I had a similar thing happen with some little gift bags I started making, they just slowly found their audience over time. Its nice when your side thing turns into something real without you having to push it.

Yeah word of mouth is everything, once people started sharing mine on facebook it just snowballed from there!
