My chicken coop roof caved in during a rainstorm last Tuesday
I was out in the backyard near Manchester feeding the hens when I heard this awful cracking sound. Looked up and saw the plywood roof sagging, then it just gave way under the weight of all that rain. Lost two birds before I could get them out, and the rest were soaked and terrified. Spent the next three days rebuilding with metal roofing sheets instead. Anyone dealt with a coop collapse and found a better way to brace the frame?

Metal roofing was a good call. I did the same thing after my garden shed roof decided to turn into a swimming pool during a downpour last spring. That old plywood just soaked up water like a sponge until it couldn't hold anymore. Ended up using these metal corner brackets from the hardware store to beef up the frame joints, and I drilled extra screws every six inches along the trusses for good measure. Birds are skittish creatures anyway, so I'm sure yours are still giving you the side-eye about the whole ordeal.

Wait, you drilled extra screws every six inches? That sounds like overkill but I guess you really don't want that roof coming down again.
