TIL a trick for fitting a tight scope base from a guy in a Wyoming truck stop

He said he puts the base in the freezer for 20 minutes and the receiver in the sun for 10, then they slip together easy. I tried it on a stubborn Ruger American and it worked first try. What other old-school fitting tricks are out there that actually work?

Fixing a 70s amplifier showed the change in electronics work

I spent last weekend fixing my dad's old stereo amplifier from the 70s. The inside had big, separate parts on a single board, easy to see and touch. I remembered how we used to repair things by just swapping out parts. Now, with tiny parts and glued cases, it's much harder. It feels like we've lost some of what was fun about fixing things. I wonder if others have seen this change in their work. Let's talk about how we handle these new challenges.

Never thought I'd say this, but hand-filing beats machine trimming for sensitive horses.

The control lets you feel all the flaws and fix them right away...

Watched my buddy grab a "pro" drill from a flea market last year. Thing smoked on the second screw he tried to drive. Plastic gear inside just melted. He was so mad he threw the bits across his garage. Total waste of twenty bucks and a Saturday morning. Now he just borrows my old one when he needs it.

After trying to shoot the Milky Way from my backyard versus a dark sky park in Utah, the difference in detail is just insane.

Totally get that! I did a long drive to the desert last year and was blown away. Suddenly the Milky Way had all this structure and a golden color I'd never seen from town. It really does feel like a different sky out there.
