A simple change to our torque wrench storage cut our calibration fails in half

We had the same issue with our micrometers. They were getting their faces dinged up in a tool chest. Our machinist cut a block of closed-cell foam with slots for each one. Calibration passes went way up because the anvils and spindles weren't getting knocked out of whack anymore. It's a cheap fix that definitely works.

Used to be able to chat with artists at cons, now it's just lines and merch tables

Yeah, even my cat started demanding treats before she'll sit on my lap. It's getting bad lol.

Update: I've seen three different techs in our hangar skip the final torque check on D-sub connector backshells this month.

That bit about the loose pin on the VHF feed line really hits home. It's never just a loose connector, it's the start of a chain that can take a whole system down. I've found corrosion starting in those gaps when the backshell isn't tight, and then you're looking at a full cable replacement instead of a simple torque check. It makes you wonder how many intermittent faults in the logbook trace right back to a skipped final step like that.

Remember tracing letterforms by hand? Now fonts are just a click away.

Look at the last ten fonts you actually used. How many came from studying old handwriting? Most are digital systems built on grids and screen legibility. Sketching letters by hand gives you one kind of feel, but it can lock you into organic shapes that fail on a pixel grid. Modern UI design needs fonts made for specific technical problems, not just nice curves.

Heads up if you're planning to shoot the Perseids from Joshua Tree this year

Wait, a thousand photographers? That sounds like a concert crowd, not a stargazing trip. I can't even picture setting up a tripod with that many people around. Your poor buddy must have spent more time dodging elbows than looking at the sky. It's sad when the thing you go out there to escape ends up following you.
