Switched from free antivirus to paid and saw a huge difference after a ransomware scare last month

Wait, aren't tracking cookies more about privacy than actual virus protection?

Shoutout to the old timer who told me to try a heat gun on a stuck bolt

Right, "go-to for anything with rust" is my new rule too since I ditched the torch for good.

Can we talk about the time a core shift ruined a whole pour at the old Milwaukee plant?

Actually those green sand cores with too much binder are a different beast than a core shift. A shift happens when the core floats or moves in the mold during pour, not from bad mixing. I've seen a core shift on a valve body pour where the print wasn't weighted right and the whole thing lifted up a good half inch. We ended up with a casting that looked like a sideways banana instead of a flanged pipe. The tracer dye in the x ray test showed the cavity was totally off center. That kind of mistake is just gutting because its so avoidable with simple checks.

Unpopular opinion: Vintage furniture restoration is way overhyped on here

Rode that same train last year with a mid-century side table. Ended up sanding through the veneer on the top edge cause it was thinner than paper. Sealed it all up nice but you can still see the damage if the light hits it right. People act like restoring old furniture is some kind of magic trick but half the time you're just fighting cheap construction from back then. Sometimes old stuff was just old junk, not hidden treasure.

My main client's payment system crashed right before rent was due

Totally agree, a week is wild. From what I've seen, that kind of delay usually means they're backed up with a huge queue or waiting on a specific part. It can feel like they're just sitting on it, but sometimes the fix itself is quick and the wait is all logistics. Still feels awful when you're the one stuck without your thing.
