Appreciation post: That $1200 set of rock sliders saved my truck last weekend

I was crawling up a washed-out trail near Moab and slid sideways into a big rock. Heard that awful crunch sound and thought my door was toast. Got out and the slider took the whole hit, just some scratched powder coat. I almost skipped buying them to save cash for other parts. Anyone have a good trick for touching up the paint on these things?

That crunch sound is the best money you never spent.

Actually that crunch sound is from the gravel they put down for drainage under the fake grass. It's not free, it's part of the install cost. They use a specific type of crushed rock, usually about two inches deep. You're paying for that material and the labor to spread it. The sound is a sign they did it right, but it definitely cost something.
