Back when I built my first Jeep I just bolted on whatever parts were on sale at the local shop...
Now I spend 3 months researching just one suspension link before I buy anything, has anyone else found their build process got way slower with experience?

Tbh that "just bolted on whatever" line hit me hard. I used to do the same thing.

Oh man, same here. I once built a whole rolling tool cart out of mismatched wheels and a bookshelf I found on the curb. It looked like a monster truck had a baby with an IKEA disaster. Half the drawers wouldn't open unless you tilted it just right, but I was so proud. Then it collapsed on my foot while I was trying to fix the leg I'd "temporarily" duct-taped. Guess I was just bolting on bandaids instead of fixing the real problem.
