Back when I built my first Jeep I just bolted on whatever parts were on sale at the local shop...

Oh man, same here. I once built a whole rolling tool cart out of mismatched wheels and a bookshelf I found on the curb. It looked like a monster truck had a baby with an IKEA disaster. Half the drawers wouldn't open unless you tilted it just right, but I was so proud. Then it collapsed on my foot while I was trying to fix the leg I'd "temporarily" duct-taped. Guess I was just bolting on bandaids instead of fixing the real problem.

Paid $150 for a disability lawyer who didn't even file my paperwork on time

Wait he charged you $150 AND still missed the deadline? That's insane.

Wasted $40 on a book club subscription box that was all hype

Right there with you, those boxes are just expensive junk.

Bought a fancy Festool router bit set and trashed one in 10 minutes

Wow, I have to push back a little here. I get what you're saying @hall.nora, but I just don't agree that cheap bits hold up as well if you take lighter passes. In my experience, the cheap ones lose their edge way faster, even when I baby them. The metal quality and heat treatment really matter for how long a bit stays sharp. I've burned through budget bits on softwood by going slow, while my nicer ones just coast through the same cut. Price definitely buys better toughness too, not just precision. I think you might have just gotten a bad batch or a defective bit, because $40 should not die on two pine boards no matter how fast you push it.

Appreciation post: The guy who told me I was overcomplicating my forum replies

Honestly, I gotta push back a little here. Is typing what you'd actually say really that profound? I mean, it's just talking on the internet. I talk like I talk in person, and people still ignore me half the time. Maybe it's not the words, maybe it's just what you're saying.
