I finally quit guessing at pinion angle after 7 hours under my truck in Reno
I always figured you could just eyeball pinion angle with a level and call it good. Then I put a 3 inch lift on my Tacoma and got a vibration at 55 that shook the console. A guy named Dale at a shop off 4th Street told me to buy a $20 angle finder and measure both the tcase and diff flanges. Took me 7 hours over two nights to get it within 1 degree, but I want to hear how you guys set yours without a lift.
Seven hours over two nights in a driveway sounds about right, that job always takes way longer than people expect. I fought the same vibration after my 3 inch lift and wasted a whole weekend guessing before I finally measured both flanges. The annoying part is you're never really done, one good pothole and you're back under there with the angle finder.
