My Dana 44 axle shaft snapped clean in half on the Rubicon Trail last month, and I had to winch myself out over a mile of granite.
I was crawling up a steep slab when it went, and the only spare I had was for the front, so has anyone else had a rear shaft fail and what brand did you switch to?

Yeah, a full break like that is no joke. I snapped a rear shaft on my old YJ in Moab, same kind of clean split. Stock shafts are just glass once you add bigger tires. I switched to Yukon after that and haven't had a problem since, even with 37s. That mile long winch out sounds like a special kind of hell.

Snapped clean in half? That's wild. Seen a lot of shafts twist a spline or shear a u-joint, but a full break is pretty rare. What were you running, stock? That trail is brutal on anything though.
