My first time on the old logging roads with just a basic lift kit
I had a trusty pickup with minimal mods and a spare tire strapped to the roof. We'd pack lunches and hope for the best if the weather turned. These trips felt more about the drive than checking gadgets. Looking at rigs now with all their screens and lights, it's a whole other world. That simplicity really shaped how I see building a 4x4 for actual use.

Honestly, all those new screens and lights sure help when you're stuck on a tough trail at night.

Tbh, all that talk about needing screens and lights for night trails feels over the top. People did just fine back in the day with less gear and more skill. Now it's like you can't go out without a full tech setup, which is kinda silly.

Man, this takes me back to a trip with my dad's old Bronco! We got caught in a downpour on a forest service road when the wipers gave out. Had to use a rag to wipe the windshield by hand while he drove, and it was messy but we laughed the whole way. That kind of thing makes you learn to adapt without fancy gear. Now I see trucks with rain-sensing wipers and it just feels like a different planet, but those rough moments really teach you what matters out there.
