Is AI art actually art or just fancy copy-paste? Been arguing with my brother all week lol

He keeps saying AI generated images take zero skill because you just type words and hit go. But I think there's genuine creativity in crafting the right prompt, refining it, and knowing what looks good. I used Midjourney to make a logo for my cleaning business website and it took me 45 tries before I got something that didn't look weird. Where do you guys draw the line between tool and artist?

Oh man I been on both sides of this argument haha. The thing nobody talks about is the curation part - like yeah you type a prompt but you also have to sift through 50 bad outputs and know which one actually works. That takes a good eye and some artistic judgment. What makes it real art to me is when you treat the AI like a raw material instead of a finished product. People who just type "cool dragon" and call it a day aren't artists, but the ones who composite, recolor, and blend generations together are doing something legit.

Yeah exactly, the real skill comes from knowing how to push the AI to give you something usable and then actually doing the work to make it look right. I've spent way too many nights sifting through 80 variations of a prompt just to find two or three that even work as a base layer. The ones who get it are the ones who treat it like digital collage - you grab pieces from different generations, mask them together, fix the wonky hands with a brush tool, and actually put in the effort. It's not just about the prompt, it's about the whole pipeline of tweaks and manual fixes that turns a decent AI output into something that feels intentional.
