Attempted frozen taquitos in the air fryer and ended up with a smoke alarm symphony

I threw a bag of frozen taquitos in at 400°F for 10 minutes like the package said. Within 5 minutes, smoke was pouring out and my whole kitchen smelled like a tire fire. Turns out those little guys leak grease like crazy and my air fryer basket had no liner. Has anyone found a way to cook taquitos without setting off every detector in the house?

Ah yes, the forbidden taquito incense. Air fryers: turning snack time into a fire drill since forever.

...and then you did exactly what it said on the bag, that's what gets me. 400 for 10 minutes is literally the instruction, so you'd think they'd know their own product doesn't melt down into a grease fire. I've had the same thing happen with frozen egg rolls and I swear the air fryer just turns them into little oil bombs. Did you try lowering the temp to like 375 and checking them way earlier, maybe at 6 minutes? That's the only thing that's worked for me, but you still gotta watch them like a hawk or you get that smoke again.

Did you try flipping them halfway through and giving the basket a shake to dump out some of that grease, or did that just make things worse?
