Just realized I've been crowding my air fryer basket for months

I was making frozen chicken wings last night and they came out all soggy on one side. I was so annoyed because my friend Karen from work swears by her air fryer. Then I read the manual that came with my Gourmia that's been sitting in the drawer forever. It says right there not to overlap food. I had been piling stuff in there like a regular oven. Tried a single layer of wings tonight and they came out actually crispy. Anyone else make this mistake or am I the only one who skips the manual?

Oh man, "don't overlap food" - I totally ignored that too. I got so mad at my air fryer for making everything uneven, and then I realized I was basically trying to cook a whole bag of fries in one go like a monster. I figured the more I crammed in there, the more food I'd get. Now I do two batches if I'm feeding more than just me, and yeah, it's a pain, but at least things actually get crispy. Idk, maybe I just wanted it to be magic.

RIGHT? I did the exact same thing with my air fryer! I'd pile in a mountain of chicken wings and wonder why they came out all sad and soggy. I finally figured out that if I just do a single layer and maybe shake the basket halfway through, everything gets way better. It's like the air fryer needs its personal space to work its magic. I still get lazy sometimes and try to cram too much in, and regret it every single time. But when I actually follow the rules, it's like a whole different appliance.
