My neighbor Gary told me to stop soaking my fries before air frying them

He said it was a waste of time and they'd be crispier if I just patted them dry and tossed them in a little oil. Tried it last night with some russets, and he was totally right. Anyone have other 'shortcut' tips that actually work?

Notice how @the_pat's point shows the real shortcut is knowing which advice to ignore. Most tips just add more steps disguised as help. Filtering out the noise is the actual time-saver.

Man, that's the real truth right there. So many cooking tips are just extra work for no real payoff. You have to test them yourself and toss out the ones that don't make a difference. That filtering process saves more time than any single shortcut ever could. It turns a list of fifty tips into maybe five you actually use.
