Always thought the city's tree planting program was a waste of tax money...
I used to grumble every time I saw crews planting those little saplings along Central, figured they'd just die in the heat. But after the cottonwoods they put in near my house 4 years ago finally grew enough to shade my whole parking spot in summer, I changed my tune. Has anyone else noticed a real difference in your street's temperature or sidewalk conditions from these plantings?

Have you tried asking the city to water the new trees when it gets really dry?

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean, trees have been surviving on their own for millions of years without someone coming by with a hose. Sure, it gets dry sometimes, but a little drought isn't going to kill a newly planted tree (unless you plant something really delicate, I guess). Plus, the city probably has better things to do than water trees, like fixing potholes or keeping the parks clean. I dunno, it just feels like one of those things people get worked up about that isn't actually a crisis.
