Had a chat with my neighbor about the Rail Runner and now I'm rethinking my whole commute

I've always been a drive everywhere kind of person, even with the 25 traffic. Last week my neighbor Maria, who works downtown, told me she's been taking the Rail Runner from the Bernalillo station for about 2 years now. She said she reads a book each way and never worries about parking or the slow crawl past the Big-I. I laughed it off at first, but then she showed me her monthly gas receipts, which are like $80 less than mine, and she doesn't have that 45 minute wind-down in the car after work. Now I'm actually thinking about trying it next Tuesday, just to see if the timing works with my shop's hours. Has anyone else here made the switch from driving to the train, even part time, and did it actually stick?

Your shop hours are the thing I keep coming back to. What happens when a job runs late and you're stuck out in Rio Rancho with a train that leaves without you? Maria's situation sounds great for a set schedule downtown, but landscaping work ain't exactly 9 to 5, so are you ready for that backup plan when the train's timetable just doesn't care about your day?

That's the exact reason I'd never ditch the truck. Trains run on rails, not on job site delays, and one missed train means you're stranded or shelling out for an Uber across the whole city.
