Heads up if you park near the BioPark, I watched a crew pull 3 busted meters out of the sidewalk on Tuesday
I was walking to the aquarium entrance around 10am on Tuesday and saw two city workers digging up the parking meters on the north side of Central, right by the BioPark gate. They had three meters already stacked on a flatbed and told me they were swapping them for the new card ones because the coin slots kept jamming. One of them said the old meters eat change and people end up feeding 4 or 5 quarters before it registers, so folks get ticketed even though they paid. I checked my own receipt from the weekend and sure enough it showed a gap of like 6 minutes I definitely did not leave. If you parked on that side anytime in the last couple weeks, look at your ticket again before you just pay it online. Has anyone else gotten a parking ticket downtown that seemed wrong lately?
Wow, that explains so much! My friend got a ticket last month by the science center and swore up and down she fed the meter enough, but of course she just paid it because fighting city hall feels pointless. This kind of stuff happens everywhere and nobody ever connects the dots until someone like you actually watches workers rip the machines out. It's always the little things that add up, like broken meters, wrong clocks, and cameras that don't work right, and regular folks just eat the cost because we don't have time to argue. Good looking out for posting this, I'm gonna dig up my old receipts tonight and check them.
