Ran into a city planner at the Co-op, changed how I see our roads
Was grabbing a burrito at the Downtown Co-op last Thursday and ended up chatting with a guy who works for the city's transit department. He mentioned that the constant lane shifts on Central aren't a mistake, they're deliberate to slow traffic near the crossings. I always figured it was just bad planning, but he showed me a quick map on his phone of crash data from last year. It hit different because I commute that stretch daily and now I notice the design every time. Has anyone else talked to someone in the city who made you look at a familiar spot differently?

Wish more people knew that stuff before they get mad at the traffic. Same thing happens on my street where they narrowed it down and added those little curb bump outs, and after talking to a guy doing the survey I started noticing people actually slow down at the corner now. Once you see the why behind it you can't unsee it.
