Warning: the guy at the tire shop on Central told me my lug nuts were loose, and it turned out he was right
I was heading out of the parking lot near Central and Wyoming when I heard a weird clunk, pulled into the Discount Tire on the corner, and the tech showed me two lug nuts I could spin by hand on the front driver wheel, so I sat there for 20 minutes while they re-torqued everything, and now I want to know if anyone else has had a shop forget to tighten them after a rotation.
Lug nuts back off on their own sometimes. Heat cycles, cheap studs, aftermarket wheels, all kinds of stuff. Two loose ones out of five is not the same as the shop leaving them all finger tight. If they really forgot, you would have lost the wheel or at least felt a bad shimmy on the highway, not just a clunk in a parking lot. Twenty minutes of re-torquing is annoying but that is a normal thing to have happen. Get a torque wrench and check them yourself once a month if you are worried.
