Skeptical about that $18 heating element from the supply house, but the OEM one has been back ordered since March
Had a dryer come in last Tuesday with a dead element and the customer did not want to wait on the factory part, so I grabbed the cheap aftermarket one off the shelf at the supply house on 9th. I figured it would last a few loads and I would be back out there in a few weeks doing a free callback. Well, I checked the amp draw on it and it matched spec, and the thing has been running fine for six weeks now. Customer called yesterday just to say thanks, which never happens. Any of you running the cheaper elements long term, or am I just getting lucky so far?
Ran the cheap ones in my own dryer for two years before it finally quit, and that was the timer not the element. Feels like half the "OEM only" talk comes from guys who never actually tried the aftermarket stuff. Give it another six months and you will know if it is luck or not.
