That Samsung ice maker issue is almost always the diverter flap getting stuck

I kept seeing people swap out whole ice maker assemblies on these Samsung fridges and the problem comes back in like 3 months. It's not the ice maker itself most of the time. The real issue is the diverter flap in the auger housing gets gunked up with ice buildup and won't close all the way. Then warm air gets into the ice bin and causes clumping. I figured this out after my fourth call on a 2021 model in Dallas where the guy had already paid for a new ice maker. I just cleaned the flap area with a hair dryer and some isopropyl alcohol and it worked perfect for 6 months now. Have you guys had better luck just cleaning that flap instead of replacing the whole assembly?

Respectfully, I gotta disagree with you on this one. I've got a 2020 Samsung and that diverter flap cleaning trick only held for maybe two months before the ice buildup came right back. What I found over three rounds of fixing it is the actual problem is the ice maker itself has a design flaw where it dumps too much water and overflows, jamming the whole auger. Plus, swapping the whole assembly is a pain but it bought me a full year of working ice before it started acting up again. I'd rather just replace it and not have to mess with a hair dryer every few weeks.

How long did that replacement assembly last before the ice started jamming again... did you notice any specific time frame or just random? I'm asking because I've been through three different fixes on my 2021 model and I'm getting real tired of pulling the fridge apart every few months. The water overflow thing makes sense though, I've seen puddles under the ice bucket that seem like they shouldn't be there. It's kind of wild that Samsung still hasn't acknowledged this is a widespread problem after all these years.
