I finally had a climbing rope core shot on a big oak removal in Denver

It was about 15 feet from the anchor point during a redirect, and I had to switch to my backup line to finish the job. Has anyone else had a rope fail in a similar spot, and what's your go-to inspection routine now?

Wait, fifteen feet from the anchor? That's way too close for comfort. What kind of wear were you seeing on the rope before that? My routine is just a slow hand over hand check before and after every job now, looking for any rough spots.

Yeah, that's way too close! @wade_perez, do you ever mark your ropes with tape at high-wear zones? I started putting a little strip of colored tape every few feet after a core shot, so I can track if a rough spot is always ending up in the same place on the carabiner.

Tape trick is smart, might steal that.
