Split a giant oak right down the middle last week

Was removing a big limb over a driveway in Asheville and the hinge wood just gave out, sent the whole thing crashing onto the client's Subaru. Had to call in a crane to lift it off and spent the next 3 hours dealing with insurance paperwork. Anyone else had a hinge fail like that out of nowhere?

Remember my buddy's deck that collapsed last summer? He kept saying the old beams had "good bones." One heavy rain and the whole thing was just a pile of splinters.
