Found a 2,000 year old coin in my backyard in Modesto and have no idea what to do next
Last Saturday I was digging post holes for a new fence when my shovel hit something round about 14 inches down. It turned out to be a rusty old coin with a face on it, and after some googling I think it might be Roman, which makes zero sense for central California. I called the local historical society and they seemed interested but said they can't come out for two weeks. Should I just leave it in the hole until they get here, or is there a better way to store it so I don't mess it up?
