Found a Roman-era shoe buckle near my back fence last month
I was digging a post hole for a new gate and turned up this small bronze buckle around 2 feet down. Local museum dated it to the 3rd century, which is wild for my little corner of rural Oxfordshire. Anyone else stumble on old artifacts doing mundane yard work?

Totally feel you on this. It's like the ground just keeps secrets until you poke it. I found a 17th century clay pipe stem digging up a dead rose bush once. Just a tiny piece but it completely changed how I look at my own backyard. Kinda makes you want to dig up everything just to see what else is down there.

Makes you wonder what else is buried under all those tidy gardens and manicured lawns.
