Paid $150 for a "carbon dating" test that turned out to be a scam

I sent them a sample from my dig and got results in 2 days - no reputable lab works that fast. Cost me $150 and the whole thing was bogus. Anyone know a real lab that won't break the bank?

Look I get being frustrated but saying "no reputable lab works that fast" is a bit of a stretch. Some legit labs DO offer rush services for an extra fee, especially if they use AMS technology which can process samples pretty quick. The real red flag here is the $150 price tag. Actual carbon dating costs way more than that because of the equipment and calibration needed. A proper lab will charge $300 to $500 minimum and take weeks not days to run multiple tests and cross-check results. You probably found a "lab" that's just making up numbers and sending fake certificates. Try the Beta Analytic lab or the University of Georgia's center for applied isotope studies. They're not cheap but at least you'll get real results.

Dude you nailed the price thing. $150 for carbon dating is basically a scam alarm right there. Real AMS machines cost a fortune to run and maintain, so anyone offering dirt cheap prices is either cutting corners or straight up lying. The fast turnaround you mentioned could be legit with some labs, but they ain't hiding the cost of that rush service either. Anyone serious about getting an artifact dated should expect to shell out real money and wait a bit, no shortcuts there. Have you ever used Beta Analytic before?
